Numbers to Know

Once you’ve selected just the right neighborhood and home for you and your family, there are several steps you need to take in order to get settled. You must arrange for utilities, enroll in school, get a new drivers license, register your vehicle and attend to many other details necessary for a smooth transition to your new location. This section includes all the necessary contact information that will provide these services. Also, be sure to notify everyone as soon as possible of your new address. Change-of-address forms are available for no charge at the local post office.

Driver’s License
New Tennessee residents must obtain a license within 30 days of establishing residency. The minimum age requirement is 16, and both a driving and vision test are required to obtain a first-time license. Newcomers with valid out-of-state licenses must only take the vision test. The driver-testing centers, which are located in Memphis, are open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Motor Vehicle Registration
New residents must get Tennessee tags within 30 days. It is not a requirement for county residents to have a vehicle inspection. Residents will need to go to a County Clerk’s office with their out of state registration information, title or lien holder’s complete mailing address, proof of their local address and fee of $57. Property Tax
In the state of Tennessee, residential property is assessed at 25% of its appraised value.
Collierville applies its tax rate to the assessed value in multiples of 100. The current tax rate is $1.45 per $100 of assessed value.

The library is located just north of Poplar Avenue where Poplar View intersects with White Road. The 27,000 square-foot state of the art library is located on a portion of the 55-acre Halle Park. The library is open Monday – Thursday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday, 1 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Voter Registration
Registration is available to U.S. citizens aged 18 and older. Persons must register 30 days before an election to be eligible to vote. Registration forms are available at the Collierville Post Office and Town Hall offices if you would like to register by mail. You can also register in person at the Shelby County Election Commission, 157 Poplar Avenue, room 109 and the Department of Safety when you apply for a driver’s license.
You can also register to vote at www.election.com.

Water & Trash Service
To start your water, sewer and sanitation service with the Town of Collierville, you must appear in person at Town Hall offices, 500 Poplar View Parkway. You will need to provide the following information:

  • Identification, driver’s license is preferred
  • Social security number
  • If renting, landlord’s name and address
  • Close relative’s name and address
  • Check or cash for payment of fees

A service establishment fee for homes being purchased or for rental property is $70 and in non-refundable. An additional $75 deposit is required on rental property but it is refundable when service is discontinued.

Payment of water bill:

  • Water bill may be paid in person at Town Hall. Office Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Bill may be paid by mail: Town of Collierville, 500 Poplar View Parkway, Collierville, TN 38017
  • 24 hour drop box available in three locations, Town Hall, the Collierville Public Library at 501 Poplar View Parkway and the Cox Community Center located at 440 West Powell Road.
