Type Government
Collierville has a Mayor and
Alderperson form of government. The Board of Mayor and five
Alderpersons is elected by popular vote for four-year terms. The
Town Administrator and all department directors are appointed by
the Board of Mayor and Alderpersons.
Collierville provides a full
range of municipal services including police, fire and paramedic
service, streets and drainage construction and maintenance,
sanitation, cultural and recreational, planning and zoning and
administrative services. In addition, the town operates a water
and sewer utility system.
Police Protection
The Police Department has grown
in direct proportion with the population of Collierville. In the
early 1980's, the population of Collierville was 5,500; and the
total number of police officers was 12. Today, Collierville's
population surpasses 30,000; and its police staff had grown to
75 police officers, 8 reserve officers and 25 senior volunteers.
In 1991-1992, the Police
Department began the application process to become one of 250 +
nationally accredited police agencies within the Commission on
Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. The
accreditation promises proper management techniques, adequate
training, and fair discipline policies, and continues to gain
national recognition of professional excellence. The Department
achieved National Accreditation in March 1995 and was
re-accredited in March 2000.

Fire Protection
The Collierville Fire Department
operates five fire stations and five Advanced Life Support
(paramedic)/engine companies. The fire engine crews provide fire
protection, emergency medical care, fire safety inspection, and
numerous other fire safety related services. The Department has
an average response service level of less than four (4) minutes.
The Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (E.M.T.'s) are
equipped with the latest in basic and life support equipment.
Private ambulance service is used for transportation to the
hospital.
Collierville has a Class 4
Insurance Rating.

The Development Services
Department consists of three divisions: Planning, Engineering
and Construction Codes. The department’s mission statement is to
plan and manage the town’s growth and development so that it
occurs in an orderly and economical fashion, and in such a
manner that the town’s quality of life is preserved and
sustained. Assistant Town Administrator Chip Petersen heads this
department.
