Health Care

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville opened May 1, 1999. This full-service hospital has state-of-the-art facilities including large patient rooms with the amenities of home. Situated on 75 acres of park-like campus, the hospital campus has large trees, a walking trail and pond. Adjacent to the airy dining room is the central lobby and beautiful fountain. An outdoor courtyard is open on the second floor for patients and guests. Childbirth classes, continuing education classes and health seminars will be offered to the public in the large classroom. There are 12 other hospitals within 30 minutes of Collierville that cover all medical specialties

Parks and Recreation

One of Collierville's location strengths is its cultural, entertainment and recreational amenities. Located within Collierville are eleven community parks, a community center, a Historic Town Square, and a performing arts theatre. Two golf courses and two country clubs are adjacent to the Town's limits.

W.C. JOHNSON PARK – Located at Wolf Ridge Drive and Johnson Park. The 135-acre park has natural areas, wetlands, two lakes, elevated boardwalk and outdoor classroom. The park has a five-field baseball/softball complex, two multi-purpose fields, restroom, concessions, press box facilities, gazebo and playground. The park also has a new water spray park.

SUGGS PARK – Located on South Street, just east of Center Street, the 13-acre park has two lighted baseball/softball fields, open green space areas, restroom facilities, pavilion, playground and picnic areas.

ESTANAULA PARK – Located on Estanaula Trails on Byhalia Road in south Collierville, this nine-acre neighborhood park consists of a lake and a connection with the Greenbelt system.

W. COX JR. PARK – Located at 440 West Powell Road, the 60 acre park has a 1.2 mile walking trail, four field baseball complex with concessions, five multi-purpose fields, four batting cages, picnic facilities, four lighted tennis courts, pavilion and two playgrounds. It is home to the Harrell Performing Arts Theatre and the Community Center.

PROGRESS ROAD PARK – This five-acre site in east Collierville on Progress Road has two lighted multi-purpose fields.

STEEPLECHASE PARK – Located on Grand Steeple Drive, the 25-acre park consists of two lakes, a half-mile trail and a playground.

TARA OAKS PARK – This 12.5 acre open space on Gable Lane Drive is currently undeveloped.

FRANK ROAD TENNIS COURTS – Located on Frank Road, the two lighted courts are available for year-round usage.

CONFEDERATE PARK – Located in the heart of the Historic Town Square, the park is the trademark of the Town. It features turn of the century walkways, cast iron fences, an antiqued-styled clock and a charming bandstand.

NIKKI McCRAY PARK - Located south of Hwy. 72 on Harris Road, the park consists of two soccer fields, pavilion, two basketball courts, baseball/softball practice field, playground and a half-mile walking track.

PLANTER’S RIDGE PARK – This nine-acre park located on Collierville-Arlington Road includes a walking track.

OAKMONT PARK - This two-acre park on Surry Oaks Drive has a small pond, playground and a Greenbelt connection.

THE COLLIERVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER - opened in 1984. The multi-million dollar facility consists of approximately 31,000 square feet, including a gym, two racquetball courts; four meeting rooms; and kitchen. The center also has a cardiovascular area (with 2 treadmills, a stair climber, a recumbent bicycle, a rowing machine and hand weights). Over 100,000 visitors pass through the facility each year to attend the various instructional and/or civic functions/classes held in the Community Center.

THE HARRELL PERFORMING ARTS THEATRE - consists of a 352-seat auditorium with state-of-the-art light and sound systems. The auditorium is available for rentals (i.e. ballets, beauty pageants, lectures, etc) and is used frequently for instructional courses including acting, drama, guitar, piano and voice lessons. The Collierville Arts Council stages approximately five productions each year, including plays and concert series.

COLLIERVILLE GREENBELT – The Collierville Greenbelt system is designed for the construction of over 60 miles of trails and sidewalks connecting parks, schools, neighborhoods and commercial districts. The town currently manages over 5 ½ miles of trails within the corporate limits.

Designed to enhance the natural beauty of the town, the trails run along laterals of the famous Wolf River, preserving natural vegetation and providing protected wildlife habitats. Whether you’re a biker, walker, runner or simply enjoy strolling your child outdoors, the Greenbelt is within easy access for many Collierville residents. Age appropriate playgrounds at various locations provide additional fun for younger children and a break for parents.
Be sure and take the scenic Old Wagon Trail section from Shelton Road north into W.C. Johnson Park. This section includes elevated boardwalks that view wetlands, old river runs and a variety of wildlife.

Cultural Arts and Events

Collierville's Harrell Performing Arts Theatre offers a full-schedule of musical or theatrical productions in its 360-seat theatre located in Powell Road Park. In addition to plays produced in-house, the theatre presents ballets and musical performances.

The Collierville Arts Council was formed in 1989 as a non-profit organization. The Council develops, promotes, assists and coordinates the Arts activities in the Town and surrounding areas. It is the only Arts Council in the Mid-South to offer a season of Theatre, Music and Dance.

Revenue for the Arts Council is generated through ticket and subscription sales, donations, advertising revenue, fundraisers and concessions. Also, the Arts Council does offer a corporate sponsorship.

Communications

Collierville is served by a first-class post office with 50 employees, two incoming mails and two outgoing mails daily.

South Central Bell Telephone Company provides telephone service and Western Union provides telegraph service.

A local radio station, WPLX, offers AM listening. Collierville also has excellent reception from all Memphis stations and other stations located in the surrounding areas.

Collierville offers six television stations, Channels 3 (CBS), 5 (NBC), 10 (PBS), 13 (ABC) and Channels 24 and 30. In addition there are two government/educational cable access channels, 17 & 19. Special local productions including replays of government commission meetings air on channel 19. Cable television is available through Time Warner.

The Shelby Sun Times, The Collierville Herald and The Collierville Independent are published weekly. The Commercial Appeal (Memphis) is the major daily newspaper with a circulation of 236,000.
