Population
Population growth for Collierville
has outpaced that of Shelby County and the surrounding metropolitan
area including: Tipton and Fayette Counties in Tennessee; Crittenden
County in Arkansas; and DeSoto County in Mississippi. The direction
of growth continues to occur in the east and southeast corridors of
the County with the most extreme of the southeast portion being
Collierville.
Collierville's 2000 population was
31,872 an increase of 121% over the 1990 Census count. The Memphis
Metropolitan Statistical Area (Memphis MSA), had a 2000 population
of 1,135,614, the second largest metropolitan area in the State of
Tennessee, and the 41st largest in the nation. Of that total,
897,472 persons reside in Shelby County.
