Shawn Karol Sandy and
The Selling Agency
What got you started in this business?
I founded The Selling Agency after thriving in a successful sales career where I created opportunities to work closely on building solutions for clients that quickly closed the gap on sales strategy and sales execution. I found in both the enterprise organizations and small businesses a profound lack of options for strategic, differentiation based sales training and coaching versus technique based practices. For small businesses that did not yet have a sales program, their options were scarce. Their default is ‘marketing’ instead of truly ‘selling’. You can market until you’re blue in the face, but until you actually dedicate your time, resources, and talent to ‘selling,’ you are at the mercy of your customers’ satisfaction with the status quo and you’re vulnerable to your competitors out-selling you.
When did you open the business and how has it evolved or adapted since the business launch?
I launched The Selling Agency in 2013 and I am always evolving and "learning harder" to bring fresh and effective selling methods to my clients so they can always be relevant to buyers and out-sell their competition. I live by the motto: Adapt, Evolve or BE REPLACED!
How is your business unique? What kind of experience can customers enjoy by doing business with you and your team?
Growth can be painful and risky and our job is to move our clients through those painful points so they can scale and grow revenue. Not everyone enjoys this process so we've had to learn to choose our clients carefully and strategically move them through their sales plan so that their business, their talent, and their customers are all going in the same direction. Change is hard and disruption is uncomfortable. For us, we know that those challenges are opportunities for our clients to break away from the pack of their competition.
I think my innate gift is helping people find new ways to solve old problems, unique ways to approach new problems and helping businesses re-invent themselves and their sales strategies. I know our impact on business is measurable and meaningful and I thrive on our clients' successes.
What are your favorite things about Collierville? What makes our town special to you?
My favorite things about Collierville are the outstanding schools, dedicated and visionary town leadership and so many activities for our family - especially the parks and greenbelt areas - we are always hiking or playing outdoors. We've enjoyed the Town Square fun, Christmas events and I love what the Park and Recreation programs have to offer. I travel all over the country and am always grateful that I come home to my safe and beautiful 'burb that has everything I need.
Tell us about your story! Your family, interests, and hobbies:
I live in Collierville with my husband Mike, an optometrist, who is still the handsome, funny man who captured my heart at 18. We have two smart and sassy children Sophia and Jake who attend BSE - Best School Ever! I coach Sophia's volleyball team and lead her Girl Scout Troop and this year Jake started playing baseball so that's been great fun to cheer the kids on. We moved here from Michigan 21 years ago so we take advantage of the mild weather nearly year round by bike riding, hiking, or playing outside.
Is there a nonprofit organization or group that holds a special place in your heart?
While there are many nonprofit organizations I've volunteered with over the years, my greatest time and dedication are with Make A Wish Midsouth, Girl Scouts - Heart of the South, and NAWBO Memphis. Volunteering can take shape in many different forms. With Make A Wish, I work with their development team and board of directors to increase the results of their fundraising efforts. I count my blessings every day with two healthy, precious children and work hard to support the outstanding Make A Wish team that brings so much joy to children in treatment for life-threatening illnesses. The impact the Wish and the process it has on the child and the family is truly powerful to see.
Why is Collierville a great place for your business? What does it mean to YOU personally to do business in here in Collierville?
Collierville is not only a phenomenal place to live but also a fantastic place to do business. We have clients throughout the country but as I live here and my Director of Ground Floor Strategies, Selena Silvestro does as well, we are drawn to work here and make a difference with the people and businesses in our community.
We're both excited about a new partnership with The Collierville Chamber to bring hands-on cost effective sales strategies to the Chamber Membership.
