What got you started in this business?
After 15 years in property management, I took the leap into business ownership. My father was in the promotional products business as a supplier for my entire life, so I was familiar with the industry. I launched my own distributorship and my first clients were the companies I previously worked for. To this day, we still have a lot of property management companies as clients.
When did you open the business?
I started the business in 2002 in Cross Plains, WI just outside of Madison. Initially, I ran it out of a spare bedroom in our house until it was time to move to an office. When my wife Lisa was transferred with her job to Illinois two years later, I moved the business to Monticello, IL. In 2010, Lisa was given the opportunity to work at her company’s corporate office in Memphis, and we relocated to Collierville. This was such an outstanding move for our family! We’ve been so fortunate to own a business that’s easily relocated as we have a large number of clients around the country.
Tell us about your customers! Why do they come to you?
Our customers run the gamut from small “mom and pop” companies and start-up businesses to large corporations with clients in 39 states. Our philosophy is that everyone gets treated the same regardless of the size of their business or the level of annual sales they do with us. This is a business built on relationships and many clients have been with us for a decade or more. Repeat business is our ultimate reward!
In order to differentiate our business from other suppliers, we provide supplemental business services at no additional cost. When we serve a business, we are a consultant first and a product supplier second. This means we sometimes assist our customers with matters unrelated to promotional products. We’ve helped clients set-up QuickBooks for the first time, generated ideas for special events and helped them with marketing slogans. We’ve talked businesses through the pros and cons of numerous business decisions and provided revenue building suggestions. Unlike most promotional product providers, we also provide free graphic design services to further save money and time for our clients.
It’s critical that we’re 100% certain the artwork sent to the suppliers is correct for every order placed. We've even created company logos for new start-up businesses or specialty artwork to promote a company or organization’s event. I'm fortunate to have an outstanding staff supporting our business efforts. Our team consists of Jenn Barlow, Office Manager, Linda Favazza, our Graphic Designer and Website Manager, my daughter Grace Meindl as Administrative Assistant, and Michelle Karhoff, Accountant.
Tell us about a "day in the life" of you in your business.
Our focus every day is to find our clients the best quality products that fit within their budgets and meet their delivery needs. Because of the strong relationships we’ve formed with the larger suppliers in our industry, we receive discounted pricing which we pass along to our clients. We can also turn around many orders in less time than the typical industry standard.
We’re very selective on the products we sell because these promotional items are a direct reflection on our clients. If they give out a pen that doesn't write well or an item that breaks after a few uses, it forms a negative impression in the mind of the recipient.
To accommodate the changing way some people prefer to shop, last year we launched an online distributorship named Max Promo Sales. Our top 65 suppliers can be found on the Max Promo Sales website with discounts already calculated into the pricing. Customers can locate the product they want, upload their artwork and place orders with 24/7 convenience and pay by credit card. We’re very proud of the new website, and I named it in honor of my late father, Max.
What makes our town special to you and why is it a great place for your business?
Since the day we moved to Collierville over 7 years ago, I’ve been singing the Town's praises. Collierville still has a small town feel and the schools are outstanding. Our local businesses as a whole have a very pro-community feel. I've moved my company twice prior to relocating here and did not find this same community feel each time. Our company is very focused on supporting the community and being part of the Town. When possible, we support local organizations through donations of product, services or funds. We also try to help new businesses achieve success. We were honored to be named the 2015 Small Business of the Year by the Collierville Chamber. My team and I are heavily involved with the Collierville Chamber and I’m in my 4th year serving on the Chamber Board.
Tell us about your story! Family, interests and hobbies:
My wife Lisa and I have a 17 year old daughter, Grace, a senior at Collierville High School. Grace will be attending Kansas State University in the fall. My wife earned her bachelors and masters degrees at K-State and we are all Wildcat fans.
I grew up in Wisconsin in a town called West Bend (known for small kitchen appliances). West Bend is located just north of Milwaukee and I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. I’m a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and proud “Cheesehead!” It took me many years, but I’ve successfully converted my wife to The Packers fanclub (from being a Kansas City Chiefs supporter!) Lisa works for EdR as a Senior Regional Director and our family attends Hope Presbyterian Church in Cordova. At this time in our lives, we’re taking time to cherish every special moment of Grace’s last year of High School at CHS (Go Dragons!). It’s hard to believe our daughter will be a college student in the fall!

Center Street to check out samples of some of our top selling items in person. Our goal is to meet our customers needs where and how they want to shop - in person, online, by phone or via email, with the same high level of service and graphic design they expect from our team. Simply put, “Making your business look good is our business!”
