My Town Miracles
What brought you to serve this non-profit organization?
As a Co-Owner of a locally owned and operated family of companies located here in Collierville (My Town Movers; My Town Roofing), I had a strong urge to 'just help people' and decided to launch this 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization in 2015. My roles are both as the Founder and President at My Town Miracles and I’m thankful to have an incredible Board of Directors and dedicated group of volunteers working to help others every day. Being immeasurably blessed as business owners, this organization allows us to fulfill a lifelong dream to make a deep impact in and throughout the local community and beyond.
Tell us about who you help in our community and how you do it.
My Town Miracles has a Mission to 'Be the miracle that brings lasting change.' That means anyone in the Collierville area and throughout the local Mid-South. We strive to improve the quality of someone's life as we 'bring hope and touch lives' to any individual or family in need of mercy, compassion and grace during their hour of need. This video shows one of our local miracles and we are so blessed to have met the Alexander family.
Although we focus on 4 core areas: Life, Liberty, Learning and Last Days ("The 4-L's"), we are uniquely positioned to come alongside local organizations and area Non-Profits and help them fulfill their respective missions. By doing so, we have effectively fulfilled our Mission. We fundraise through events like the 'Chick-fil-A Bluff City Field Day' to benefit My Town Miracles. This big event is coming up on April 22, 2017 and we welcome new volunteers and business supporters! Please view our video of last year’s Chick-fil-A Bluff City Field Day to see the incredible community impact! Additionally, we seek donor support through online donations as well as through grants and event sponsorship.
Who would be a great volunteer for your organization?
We know that everyone is uniquely gifted and volunteers can assist with their time, talent or treasure. We will find a way to plug you in based upon your passions and skill sets. Time requirements are solely dependent on the volunteer and organization’s needs at the moment; fundraising, events, etc.
Tell us about a “day in the life” of you in your organization.
In one day, miracles are made: paying the mortgage for a widow with a special needs child, mentoring an inner-city youth and providing a bed and appliances for a mother and her children when she recently lost her job. We believe it’s critical to #BeTheChange: sponsoring a drug and alcohol treatment program for a homeless man to get him off the streets and out from underneath the bridge or helping someone in their final stage of life die with a sense of dignity. In our hearts, we pray for miracles: counseling a woman in the middle of a crisis pregnancy on the dignity of life and how important her choices are to that unborn child. Everyday is a day for a Miracle.
What makes Collierville special to you and why is it a great place for your non-profit organization?
Collierville is a tight knit community of people who uphold small-town values. Even as Collierville grows, it still has a small-town feel. We believe Collierville is a great place for My Town Miracles because the need for living Miracles is just as evident in the suburbs as it is in the city.
Tell us about your first volunteer experience!
My first experience as a volunteer was with my mom as we were raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-South, Inc. when I was a teenager. I saw first-hand the impact of coming alongside individuals in need whose lives were positively impacted by the generosity and compassion of others in the local community.
