Collierville Arts Council
What brought you to serve this non-profit organization?
I got involved with the Collierville Arts Council over four years ago because of my daughter’s love for theatre throughout her years at Collierville High School. I first helped with costumes for a show and then progressed to working on show production with other arts council members. I’m now the Executive Director and I enjoy working with theatre folks who want to bring great shows to our local community. The actors, support team and many volunteers truly become a family on each production. It’s an amazing feeling to bring such outstanding performances to our community. Live theatre is a magical experience to be a part of, both as an audience member and being a part of the production team!
Tell us about your community outreach:
Our purpose is to develop, promote, assist and coordinate the arts in the Town of Collierville and surrounding areas. We perform other charitable services, produce musical theatre productions as well as straight plays. We also have a children's chorus, an annual Symphony in the Rose Garden featuring the Germantown Symphony at the home of Mary Jean and Bob Smith, an annual Arts in the Alley event and we also work with the Morton Museum to promote local artists. We will soon be offering some dance classes too. Cultural enrichment through community art galleries, high quality performances and opportunities to showcase talent are the heart of our mission.
Who benefits from the CAC outreach?
There are children, teens and adults who perform, and many talented volunteers who bring it all together for our audiences. We work with emerging talents, seasoned performers and those interested in “learning the ropes” for the first time. When artists, singers, actors and dancers come together with eager volunteers and theatre enthusiasts, it truly energizes our community. Collierville is enriched by our strong arts program!
Tell us about your family, interests and hobbies! What was your first volunteer experience in Collierville?
My husband Tom and I moved to Collierville nearly 20 years ago after he retired from a career in the Navy and started a new career at FedEx. Our girls were raised here and have both gone to The University of Memphis. I love to travel, sew and continue growing my Longaberger business which I have been a part of for 19 years.
After moving to our Town, I jumped in with volunteer work by getting involved with our Collierville Elementary School PTA. It was a great way to help our children’s school and to get to know people. I continued my volunteering in various PTAs at Collierville Middle and Collierville High, being president at the high school. I have also coached our girls in soccer, was their girl scout leader and I am a member of the Collierville Kiwanis Club and the Collierville Rotary Club as well. I also really enjoy being a Chamber Ambassador which keeps me in the know about local businesses and gives me a chance to meet great people in our community with whom I can share what we do at the Collierville Arts Council.
How can we get involved with the CAC?
We will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the theatre with a fun line up of shows and opportunities for you or your business to be involved in our events. Stay tuned for the announcement of our exciting 2017-2018 season of shows and events with the Collierville Arts Council through the Town of Collierville and our Facebook page. Tickets are available for our next production, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, July 14th-23rd. The Collierville Children’s Chorus gives boys and girls, K-5th grade, interested in pursuing their musical abilities, the opportunity to showcase their talents in additional venues and network within our community.
We truly have something for everyone! Local businesses can support us with their donations and sponsorships which provide an excellent opportunity to showcase their businesses with our events.
